One of the first questions new Taxorio users ask is whether they still need an accountant, or whether an app with an AI assistant is enough. There is no single answer — it depends on what you do, how complicated your affairs are, and what you were expecting from the accountant in the first place. Here is an honest comparison, without the marketing gloss.
What the app handles comfortably
For most sole traders with a straightforward business, Taxorio and its built-in AI assistant cover the day-to-day work.
Invoicing and records
- Issuing invoices, domestic and foreign, with or without VAT
- Recording received documents and expenses
- Tracking receivables and chasing clients — automatic reminders are a PRO feature
- A client database with ARES lookup of Czech business registry details
- Keeping documents in digital form
VAT
- A running view of output and input VAT
- Figures and XML for the VAT return and the control statement, monthly or quarterly — the XML export is on the PRO plan
- Recording reverse charge on cross-border supplies, within the EU and to third countries, including self-assessment on services received
- Tracking turnover against the mandatory VAT registration thresholds, for 2025 onwards
Answers to tax questions
- The current VAT rates for particular kinds of supply
- The flat-rate expense percentages for different trades — 60 %, 80 % and the rest
- Filing deadlines for the current year
- Whether an ordinary expense is deductible
- How social security and health insurance contributions are calculated
The annual return, in simple cases
If your only income is from self-employment under § 7 of the Income Tax Act, you claim flat-rate expenses or straightforward real ones, and you have no job alongside the business and no other complicated income, you can put the income tax return together yourself with Taxorio and the assistant. Note that the generated DPFDP7 XML covers only § 7 income and the basic taxpayer credit — children, a spouse, deductions and advances already paid have to be added in the MOJE daně portal.
Six situations where you need a professional
Let us be honest about the other side. There are situations no AI assistant, however good, will substitute for a tax adviser.
1. Optimising a complicated income structure
If you combine employment income, business income, rental income under § 9 and capital income under § 8, the sensible strategy depends on how those interact and on experience with cases like yours. An AI can give you the general rules; the specific plan comes from a person who has seen it before.
2. Being represented before the tax office
If the tax office opens an inspection, asks for an explanation or starts proceedings, you need a tax adviser or a lawyer. An AI assistant cannot correspond with the authority on your behalf, sign anything, or represent you in a hearing.
3. International taxation and permanent establishments
Working for foreign clients, income from several countries, a possible change of tax residence, or a question about whether you have created a permanent establishment abroad — these carry real consequences if you get them wrong. The general rules are public; applying a particular double taxation treaty to your facts is specialist work.
4. Converting from a sole trader to an s.r.o.
Whether and when to move from self-employment to a limited liability company has tax, legal and practical consequences at once: where the crossover point lies, how to balance a director's remuneration against profit distributions, what happens to VAT. That is advice, not a chatbot answer.
5. Insolvency, enforcement, restructuring
If things go wrong financially — looming insolvency, enforcement proceedings, negotiating an instalment plan or a waiver of penalties with the tax administrator — you need legal and tax representation. The downside risk is too large to improvise.
6. Sector-specific rules
Some sectors have rules of their own: farmers and the reduced 12 % VAT rate on selected products only, property developers and VAT on buildings under § 56 of the VAT Act, doctors and exempt health services, copyright and royalties subject to withholding tax. If you work in one of them, a consultation pays for itself.
The hybrid approach
The arrangement that suits most sole traders looks like this:
- Through the year: Taxorio with the AI assistant for invoicing, records, the VAT return and everyday questions
- Once a year, in November or December: an hour or two with a tax adviser to review the year, look at what can still be done and plan the next one
- Ad hoc: the adviser again whenever something unusual comes up — buying property, a large investment, starting to export into the EU, a tax inspection
You keep the routine work in the app and buy professional judgement where it actually changes the outcome.
What it costs either way
Having an external accountant keep your books typically costs a sole trader hundreds to the low thousands of crowns a month, depending on whether you are registered for VAT and how many documents you have; the annual return is usually charged separately. Check the current price list of the accountant you are considering.
Taxorio's PRO plan costs a fraction of that. A sole trader running the hybrid model — the app plus one or two consultations a year — usually ends up well below the cost of full external bookkeeping. Your own figures will depend on what your accountant charges and how much of the work you take on.
A caveat: Taxorio is a tool for keeping records, invoicing and preparing the supporting figures. It is not a licensed tax adviser within the meaning of Act No. 523/1992 Coll. You remain responsible for the correctness of your tax returns — or your tax adviser does, if you authorise one.
A quick self-test
Answer these five questions:
- Is all your income from self-employment under § 7?
- Do you claim flat-rate expenses, or real ones that are simple to document?
- Is your cross-border activity limited to ordinary invoices into the EU?
- Are you free of a job running alongside the business?
- Is your sector free of special tax rules?
Five times yes and Taxorio with the AI assistant will cover almost everything you need; the annual return and the occasional question you can handle yourself or with light support from an accountant.
Two or more no answers and the hybrid approach is the right one for you. The app still takes the routine administration off your desk, and the adviser deals only with what genuinely needs their expertise.
Taxorio scope: Taxorio provides invoicing and income/expense records for Czech sole traders. It is not full accounting or personalised tax advice. For an unsupported or unusual case, verify the treatment with a Czech accountant or tax adviser before filing.
